ABOUT US

The parish of St Joseph's has been in Redhill since the 1850s. The first church dedicated to St Joseph was built on land adjacent to the branch line through Guildford to Reading at the junction of the High Street and Chapel Road. In 1898 a new church was built on the same site. However, by 1978 when Fr Wymes came to Redhill, the church had become surrounded by other buildings and, being built before the advent of the motor car, had no car park or easy access.

After much deliberation the church was demolished, the land sold and a new church built on Ladbroke Road. On 10th June 1988 our new church was officially opened and consecrated by Bishop Cormac Murphy O'Connor, now Archbishop & Cardinal at Westminster.

The issue of a new Parish centre and hall is now the current project. The existing facilities which relate to the use of an old school building have now run their course with age. They no longer fufil the stringent requirements of health and safety nor our need for disability access. Our current project involves the sale of land on which these buildings stand and the monies generated will be used to build a new parish hall and centre for the 21st century.
